Enrichment of Knowledge

Goal

The risk assessment model developed by TU Delft and Fieldlab Events currently provides reliable predictions for contamination risks. The goal is to further refine this model and make it more insightful for use by third parties, benefiting the entire event industry. The risk assessment model is based on the Delta variant, which had a higher hospitalization and death risk than the current Omikron variants. This can affect the risk assessment if it gets an update.

Knowledge objective

The central aim of this research is to improve the risk assessment model based on new empirical data and new medical knowledge. New empirical knowledge concerns the number of infections at different locations and more insight into contacts between people (and other transmission factors of the virus). The number of different types of events (or other locations) can also be expanded. New medical knowledge concerns, for example, the effectiveness of vaccines, new insights into the transmission of the virus and the relationship with the circumstances of events and the age of visitors. The accuracy of the model is improved by explicitly including uncertainties. This means that a bandwidth is drawn up around the estimates.

Research questions

This research focuses on the following research questions (and activities):

  • Prepare event database and collect data from events
  • Improving the risk assessment model
  • Making the risk assessment model suitable for external use

Cooperating partners

The research is based on a set-up as was previously the case in the first and second phases of Fieldlab Events. Collaboration between scientific partners and the event industry, supplemented by relevant parties that can contribute knowledge.

Scientific partners

The types of partners are divided into:

Further development of risk assessment model

  • TU Delft

Epidemiological input for parameters model

  • RadboudUMC
  • Pandemic & Disaster Preparedness Center (PDPC), a collaboration between TUDelft, Erasmus UMC and Erasmus University

Other partners

For the knowledge of the sector, in particular the dates of the events and contamination figures, a collaboration is sought with:

Event overview

  • Respons
  • Sports calendar NOC*NSF
  • EventPlatform

Contamination data

  • GGD national and GGD regional

Event data

  • Organizers

Set up online COVID Knowledge Centerfor Events (CKVE)

COVID-19 knowledge is user-friendly and applicable for most important users: licensing authorities & advisory bodies, license applicants, organizers and other users. Both the generated data from Phase I & II as well as the new data, as described above, are made available in CKVE. The new platform is a place where knowledge related to COVID-19 in relation to events is made ready for use and applicable for parties that are involved in the events in any way. This includes licensing authorities, advisory bodies, organizers, media and visitors. The data that has been collected so far can be found in a user-friendly way and tailored as much as possible to the wishes of the visitor. In addition, the Knowledge Centeris continuously updated and contributions are made by science and affiliated parties, such as the Alliance of Event Builders and Event Platform. There is also a place for scientific explanation, methodology, educational videos and archives. The platform serves both as a national and international portal for continuous knowledge sharing, new research issues and as a network hub in relation to COVID-19.
